Dr. Paul Proffer

Amarillo Oculoplastic Surgeon

Dr. Paul Proffer, a native of Amarillo, returned to the area to form Proffer Surgical Associates with his wife and brother in 2006. After completing his undergraduate degree at West Texas State University, he attended Texas Tech School of Medicine. He subsequently completed his medicine internship and ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Health Science center in San Antonio. In 1995, Paul was honored by his peers in San Antonio with the Ophthalmology Resident of the Year Award.

After residency, Dr. Proffer joined the South Texas Eye Associates in Corpus Christi, where he worked for two years while his wife, Liana, finished her commitment with the U.S. Navy. In 2001, Liana was accepted to a dermatology fellowship and they relocated to San Antonio. While in San Antonio, Paul joined Braverman-Terry Eye Associates in the Alamo Heights / Monte Vista area near downtown. He built a large ophthalmology practice quickly, where he performed cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgeries, as well as BOTOX® Cosmetic for this group.

Many of his patients in San Antonio, happy with their eyelid surgeries, began to inquire about having him perform their other facial cosmetic procedures such as brow, cheek, and Face Lifts, as well as implants and dermal fillers. Because of his interest in this area of medicine and the desire to provide his patients with state-of-the-art procedures, he decided to return for more advanced training. In 2004, Dr. Proffer was fortunate to be accepted to one of the 13 available fellowship positions in the country in oculofacial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. He spent the next two years in an intensive fellowship program in Columbus, Ohio in conjunction with Ohio State University, where he participated in over 2,800 surgical cases. After completing his fellowship program, Paul planned to return to his practice in San Antonio. However, while visiting family in Amarillo during Christmas 2005, he and his wife, along with his brother, began to explore the option of joining together and bringing their subspecialties to the Amarillo area. In September of 2006, Paul, Liana, and Patrick Proffer opened Proffer Surgical Associates in Amarillo.

Dr. Paul Proffer's practice interests include cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, as well as laser and non-surgical rejuvenation of the eyelids, brows, and face. Nonsurgical options include BOTOX® Cosmetic, JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel / Restylane® / Sculptra®, and laser skin resurfacing, as well as skin care products and chemical peels. Dr. Proffer believes it is important to develop a personalized rejuvenation plan for each patient in order to reach their rejuvenation potential.

Paul and Liana have two children, Sarah (7) and Ryan (5). His hobbies and interests include baseball, coaching his children's athletic teams, fly fishing, fitness training, traveling, colonial American history, and spending time with family.
