Before Breast Augmentation

Dr. Patrick Proffer will listen closely to your concerns and your hopes at your initial breast enlargement consultation. Together, you will discuss the various surgical options as well as the different implant types, shapes, and sizes now available. With the FDA's recent approval of silicone gel implants, you can choose between silicone and saline breast implants for your procedure.

The risks and overall safety of breast augmentation for an individual patient can be determined only during a pre-surgical consultation. There is some degree of risk associated with all surgical procedures, but major complications are unusual and most healthy adults are good candidates for breast enlargement.

Breast Enlargement Surgery

At our state-of-the-art facility in Amarillo, Texas, breast enlargement is an outpatient procedure. Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia through a small incision at the base of the breast, through which a silicone or saline implant is inserted either under the breast tissue or under the breast tissue and the underlying muscle. The procedure generally takes one hour to complete.

Breast Augmentation Recovery and Results

Our main goal at Proffer Surgical is to return you to your daily activities within 24 hours. Initial discomfort after breast augmentation is controlled with oral pain medication, and sutures are usually removed in seven to twelve days. You will be able to resume light activities as soon as they are comfortable, and aerobic activities within about three weeks. Gently moving the implants during healing sometimes reduces the frequency of wrinkling.
