Dr. Liana Proffer is a graduate of Texas A&M University. She attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio (UTHSCSA). Upon graduation, she interned at the Naval Hospital in San Diego while she was active duty in the US Navy for 5 years. Once her General Medical Officer tour was fulfilled, she returned to the UTHSCSA for her dermatology residency. This was followed by her Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Surgical Dermatology fellowship in Columbus, OH, with Dr. Ronald Siegle at the Center for Surgical Dermatology. She is board certified by the American Academy of Dermatology and the American College of Mohs Surgery. Dr. Proffer has been practicing in Amarillo for 16 years as of September 2022 and has performed over 17,000 Mohs surgery cases.
Dr. Proffer specializes in the surgical treatment of skin cancer using a revolutionary Mohs technique. Mohs surgery, also known as chemosurgery, has been shown to be a highly effective treatment for certain types of skin cancer with a cure rate of up to 99 percent for certain tumors. Because the Mohs procedure is micrographically controlled, it provides the most precise method for removal of the cancerous tissue, while sparing the greatest amount of healthy tissue. For this reason, Mohs surgery may result in a significantly smaller surgical defect and less noticeable scarring as compared to other methods of skin cancer treatment. Mohs Surgery is recommended for skin cancer removal in anatomic areas where maximum preservation of healthy tissue is desirable for cosmetic and functional purposes, and also for some types of skin cancer that are more aggressive. It is also indicated for tumors that have recurred following a prior treatment and for tumors that have the greatest likelihood of recurrence.
Dr. Liana Proffer is married to Mr. Clint Hukill, and together they have 5 children. Sarah Proffer (21) and Ryan Proffer (20) are the children of Dr. Liana & Dr. Paul Proffer.
